How much longer will my Oscar last?

Its probably the water quality. A 12 gallon is very small for an oscar because they get huge (over 12 inches). They produce a lot of wastes and are very messy when eating. Try doing more water changes. I would just give it back to the pet store or someone who has a biger tank. One oscar needs 55 gallons to himself.
