How can Scientology a credible religion or believes if...?

Broke azz people cannot become members even if they really believe in that religion? I mean that is a red flag right there don't you think? I went to the Church of Scientology just to see what it's all about. I don't have a religion but I am open to learning about other religion. I am not athiest and do not believe that all religion are stupid. So I went in there and told them that I want to learn more about this religion. First off I love how that "church" looks. It looks like a business building than a church. So the girl in the counter said that I need to become a member. So I said "sure i'll be a member." Then she asked for my credit card or atm card. I was like "excuse me?" She said it cost money to be a member. That was the straw for me. I said no thanks and just walked out. Now I look into this religion and wanted to know as much about it as possible. I'm not saying I know everything and I can be naive but that level structure that they have for this religion. The OT levels, it's more to me like a great business company than a religious organization. You have to pay more to learn more? Taking courses so you can be in the top of the OT levels? I felt like I'm in a University paying for my tuition than learning about a beliefs and a religion. I want to have an open mind for this religion but it seems to me that this is more like a great business practice than wanting to help people. Not a cult, just a great business company like a Nike or a Microsoft. I'm sure Scientology can help people and make them better. It's just we need money to be in this "business" practice.
