New cat is horrible, mum loves it - help!?

have you tried playing with it? the more you interact with it, the more it will attach itself to you, and you may allow a wonderful personality to emerge from this cat. be the one that feeds it, too. this will help. it looks like it is here to stay. make the best of this situation so you can be happy.
