10 Gallon aquarium filter making funny noise?

I bought a 10 gallon aquarium about 6-7 months ago (maybe more) and it was working fine until recently. It is now making weird noises like the water isn't coming out of the filter, but i check and it is fine. so what is going on? should i just buy another filter so it runs better? Thanks for your help or input
